Last Monday, our talented girls futsal team had their biggest win of the season yet, bringing home a silver medal for our school, and ending the season on a high.
During their last season, they participated in the "Chantelle Cramb" tournament alongside various other schools from the Brisbane region. In this issue, we talk with the Wolves to hear their own opinions on their season.
Competing in an interschool tournament is something that definitely puts you outside your comfort zone, at least according to the Wolves.
“We were definitely anxious and nervous before going on the court.”
However, even with these doubts, they still put in their all in their games and didn’t let their doubts affect them.
They mentioned that their coach, Mr. Brown had given them a lot of encouragement to have fun as a team and individually by stating,
Their coach, Mr. Brown, gave them some advice that really helped them on the field.
“He had told us that we had been working hard as a team for the past year that we’ve had him. Even if we didn’t get the results that we wanted, we shouldn’t let it bother us. We should be having fun on the court and learn as we go along.”
The competition undoubtedly presented some difficulties. The team's morale was impacted by some losses they sustained during one of the games. They did, however, express how they feel in such circumstances.
The competition was not all smooth sailing, however. Team morale is not impenetrable, and definitely took some hits after losses. However, the Wolves found ways to talk it out.
“If the teams losing no one gets mad at each other because it’s not because the other team is better. It’s mainly because of our own mistakes that the other team is given that opportunity to win, so just keeping our form together is a way of motivating each other.”
Futsal isn’t just a sport, however. We talked to the Wolves about some of the things they’ve learnt from futsal, and how it’s helped them individually.
“It has really physically pushed me forward and gets me motivated. It’s a moment where I can release my anger and leave it on the field.”
“Futsal has benefited me and my daily life by helping me build relationships within the team and has helped me gain confidence in certain skills such as communication, teamwork, and resilience.”
Their coach, Mr. Brown, is no doubt a major asset to this group. During our interview, we heard nothing but praise for him.
“Mr. Brown has definitely helped us through this year in terms of skills, set plays, runs, and what to do in a difficult situation in a game. He has enhanced our futsal skills individually and as a team. We appreciate how he has a passion for futsal by not only playing during his own time but also helping us whenever we need it.”
Finally, the futsal team has a message for those who are on the fence about joining.
“In the start everyone hesitates, thinking they’re not a good player and that they’re going to have multiple eyes on them. You’ll have doubts like, what if you make a mistake and let the team down. I agree that those things do happen but your team is there for a reason. They’re not here to blame you. They’re there to make the team stronger as a whole. Every team has ups and downs but, they can only succeed when they have good communication and understanding. Having good players and no communication doesn’t always get you far.”
Once again, congratulations to the Calamvale Wolves Futsal Team, and we hope your next season is even more successful!
